On the evening of Saturday 24th October a journey through the ageless music and song of England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, plus classical and contemporary favourites, will be played with grace and sensitivity by English harpist Martyn Cook.
Solferino Cinemas are presenting “The Beauty of the Celtic Harp” as the second in the Old Katoomba Library series which began with Rare Irish Films in September 2015. In this concert, beautiful images will be projected, anecdotes and history told, there’s even a whistle-stop tour of arranging harp music. Accompanying Martyn will be singer Juliet Macken, violinist Lucy Cooper, accordionist Virginia Bj Weule and The Bard on guitar. They are all Blue Mountains musicians.
Martyn Cook has been playing the Celtic harp for over twenty years as a soloist, in ensembles, and as a session musician in recordings. He has recorded the harp on his own CD “The View From Here” which has received airplay in Australian and New Zealand.
Solferino’s curator Aanya Mary says “Martyn is an elegant and extremely talented multi-instrumentalist, particularly passionate about the harp. His own style of warmth and comedy flow through performances, he’s a true entertainer.” Supper will be served at interval and an informal question and answer session at the end.
Solferino tours carefully curated arts events to festivals and community venues. “The Beauty of the Celtic Harp” will travel through NSW and Victoria during 2016 and Martyn says, “I am particularly looking forward to sharing this music in the more remote areas.”
The show takes place at the Old Katoomba Library which Aanya Mary describes as, “a wide open flexible space that is proving a perfect venue for the sorts of events we hold.”
The show premiered at the Old Katoomba Library on Saturday 24th October 2015 to a well attended audience.
